ABOUT ME

Hi! I am Phoenix Davis. I am an undergraduate at the University of Washington, but you probably already know that if you're reading this. I am from Logan, Utah, and go by they/them pronouns. Currently, I am a Senior majoring in Biochemistry with a minor in Chemistry.  One day, I plan to use this degree to pursue a Ph.D. in biochemistry or molecular biology and eventually become a professor. A weird fact about me is that I am double jointed in all the joints of my fingers as well as my elbows. If I am not in class, researching in the lab, or volunteering you can find me, being a teaching assistant for the biochemistry department, peer educating and advising, reading a good book, playing a tennis match, beating everyone at Mario Kart, or snuggling up with my cat for a nap.

Learning Statement

As I reflect on my journey through undergraduate studies, I find myself drawn to a simple yet profound phrase: "Nothing is easy but nothing is impossible." This sentiment, stumbled upon in the mundane setting of a diner's chore sheet, has become a guiding principle for me. From the uncertainties of my first quarter to the culmination of my biochemistry degree, this phrase has resonated deeply.

In curating my portfolio, I aimed to weave a connective thread that mirrors the chronological progression of my academic and personal growth. Each artifact and annotation serves not only as a record of my achievements but also as a testament to the evolution of my identity. Embracing the roughness of my early writing, I chose to preserve it intentionally, allowing my audience to witness the tangible growth in my skills over time.

While my portfolio showcases academic accomplishments, its true purpose extends beyond professional accolades. It is a personal narrative, intended for friends, family, and fellow Honors program members, but most importantly, for myself. Here lies a consolidated recollection of my experiences and growth, offering an authentic glimpse into my journey.

As you navigate through my portfolio, I invite you to consider not just the milestones but also the nuances of my narrative. What I hope to leave you with is a deeper understanding of resilience, perseverance, and the transformative power of education.

Looking to the future, I am committed to continuing the cultivation of the lessons learned and the communities forged during my undergraduate years. I intend to further develop my research abilities at the NIH while also dedicating myself to disseminating knowledge through primarily teaching, aiming to extend the joy of science and learning to all, just as it has enriched my own life. Armed with the belief that nothing is impossible, I embark on the next chapter of my life with gratitude for the past and optimism for what lies ahead.

Thank you for accompanying me on this journey through my portfolio. May it serve as a testament to the enduring spirit of growth and possibility.
